ADHD is one of the most common diagnoses of childhood and adolescence. Raising a child with ADHD is a daunting challenge. Parent Counseling, coupled with targeted personal counseling, is an essential ingredient in the treatment of every child or adolescent who suffers from ADHD and for their parents, as many such parents are profoundly stressed and confused. In this workshop, Dr. Formica will outline the core parenting roadmap and parenting principles he has developed; will discuss what ADHD is and what it is not; and will address what makes life so difficult for both the ADHD child and their parents. Data on the effectiveness of parent counseling for parents of children diagnosed with ADHD will be addressed. Finally, Dr. Formica will outline methods and procedures for parent counseling and will emphasize the adaptations practitioners should make when working with parents of ADHD children.
